Accordingly, the Local 32 Secretary must receive all applications no later than October 1 each year to qualify for the drawing held at a General Membership Meeting in November of that year.

Email: secretary@amfa32.com.

Only one application can be filed each year per person, however if a member has multiple individuals in their household that meet the eligibility requirements of this program, all qualifying individuals may apply.

An applicant must have a high school diploma, or the equivalent thereof, and intend to apply the scholarship to further said applicant’s education with an accredited educational institution.

Individuals who win one year may reapply the following year providing that they continue to meet this programs eligibility requirement.

Method of Selection

A random drawing from a pool of eligible applicants shall be held at a regularly scheduled Membership Meeting in November of that year. A runner-up shall be selected if a winner fails to remain qualified.

Disqualification

Applications will be reviewed by the Local Executive Council and approved before the drawing. Applicants/Sponsors will be notified if disqualified from the drawing.

Procedure for Scholarship Payment

The individual awarded a scholarship has the burden of proving to the LEC that said individual is accepted and enrolled at an accredited educational institution, prior to receiving the award payment. The Local Executive Council has full power to construe the provisions of this plan.

It shall be understood by all parties that the intent of this scholarship is to assist individuals in paying for expenses related to attending an educational institute as described above. The winner acknowledges that failure to enroll in an accredited institution by November 30th of the year in which the scholarship is won will cause the award to be forfeited. Should this occur, the funding will be awarded to the qualifying runner up or if a qualified runner up is not available the award will be added to the pool for the following year. {i.e., should an award which is drawn in 2006 be forfeited, with no qualifying runner up, the total awards in 2007 will be three as opposed to 2}.

If the Local Executive Council is satisfied that the winner meets the criteria of this plan, the LEC shall direct the Treasurer to issue a check or draft to the winning individual in exchange for a receipt signed by that individual, or in the case of minors, their legal guardians acknowledging payment of the scholarship award.

If an individual has already paid tuition to the institution, upon receiving proof of payment from the institution, the Local Executive Council shall direct the Treasurer to issue a check or draft to the winning individual.

If an individual has not paid tuition to the institution, proof of enrollment must be provided to the Local Executive Council. Upon receipt of said proof, the Local Executive Council shall direct the Treasurer to issue a check or draft payable to the scholarship winner.

The Local and its Officers shall not be held liable for any action taken or omitted by them in good faith.

Tax filing requirement

The winning members understand that the Internal Revenue Service considers scholarship awards to be taxable and as such, any award won by the member, or their dependents is required to be reported. AMFA Local 32 shall not be held responsible for any taxes, fees, or fines related to receiving this award.
