AMFA Assistant National Director Monthly Report

Dear Members:

The first week in August I participated in the NEC Conference call, fielded e-mails, worked on the SWA 401K issue, and talked with other SWA unions to further the AMFA commitment to develop a mutual cohesiveness between the unions on the SWA property.

The second week of August was spent in the great state of Washington, in the city of Seattle attending the quarterly JAC meeting and the NEC face to face meetings. It was wonderful to see everyone that attended. While in Seattle the NEC and JAC members were invited to the Seattle Museum of flight where AMFA donated a bust of Charles Taylor, "The Father of Aircraft Maintenance" and the dedication, by Alaska Airlines, of a Boeing 737-800 to his memory. Attending this special event was five of the six Alaska Airlines aircraft technicians who have received the FAA’s Charles E. Taylor Master Mechanic Award. The next day the Alaska Maintenance & Engineering Division declared as "Aircraft Technician Recognition Day." A barbecue was given the Seattle Hangar and was attended by several members of the Taylor family, who were in Seattle for the dedication ceremony at the Museum of Flight. It was an honor to be welcomed by all the great AMFA mechanics and people of Alaska Airlines.
