National Director's November Update

Dear Members:

On November 4, 2015, a Celebration of Life was held for AMFA founder and former National Director

O.V. Delle-Femine near the National office in Colorado. Many current and former national officers, local

officers, colleagues, and friends gathered to share stories and pictures of Dell’s life, his life’s work, and

how he profoundly impacted our Association and our craft. It was abundantly clear that he influenced an

entire industry and many people’s lives as he worked tirelessly to advocate for those in our profession. Dell was a man of great character and will be deeply missed.

Today marks the start of our mediated negotiations for the Southwest Airlines (SWA) Aircraft Maintenance Technician’s contract. Our mediated negotiations provides the Company an opportunity to come to the bargaining table and build momentum toward successfully resolving the open issues. Hopefully, they will not miss this opportunity as yet another tentative agreement (TA) at the carrier gets voted down; the SWA pilots rejected their TA this month after the flight attendants rejected theirs last July. It is very telling that SWA management is unwilling to negotiate a contract that passes ratification by its largest unions and they continue to discount the contributions of those very employees towards the carrier’s success. It is going to take the resolve of union leaders and members working together to inspire the Company to reach a deal based on fair terms that employees can support. We will know right away if the Company is prepared to work toward a settlement, or if they intend to continue steadfast down the path of alienating their employees. It is extremely important that you stay reliably informed as we progress.

After having filed our Section 6 Notice informing Alaska Airlines that we intend to initiate full contract negotiations, we have finally scheduled December 21, 2015, to meet and exchange contract proposal openers in Seattle, Washington. The Company has also indicated that they are still entertaining the possibility of discussing the concept of presenting a contract extension to our Committee; we will keep you fully up-todate of any developments in this regard.

Each year AMFA National provides a scholarship to a student attending a school or university to obtain their A&P license. National Secretary/Treasurer Justin Madden traveled to Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, FL to present the scholarship to this year’s recipient, Mr. Kyle Johnson, and he had the opportunity to speak to other very receptive students who were interested in the scholarship, AMFA, and our craft.

For more carrier-specific updates and further information regarding AMFA and the airline industry, please visit the AMFA National Website at www.AMFANational.org and download the AMFA App to your smartphone or tablet. Our most determined efforts will only succeed with your continued support and participation – please stay informed.

Sincerely,

Louie Key

National Director
