AEI Q2 Update

7/17/2015

There were two AEI Executive Board (EB) meeting in Q2 2015, the first I attended via Skype, and the second I attended in person in conjunction with an emergency meeting called by AEI to address great concerns regarding newly leaked documents on the Trade in Services Agreement (TiSA), see paragraph below and my report on TiSA.

The European Ombudsman ruling issue over EASA’s over edited response to the original request for information continues. Though the Ombudsman agreed with AEI and has requested that EASA amend the documents, the documents themselves become less relevant as they become older.

Concern continues over EASA’s interpretation of Certified Release to Service (CRS) with some in the industry trying to push the idea that it is simply an administrative function. AEI is standing firm that a CRS requires certificated personnel directly involved in the maintenance performed. Each of the affiliates has provided AEI with their specific internal processes, and we are now waiting for follow-ups of interpretation from each country’s National Aviation Authorities (NAA).

Just a reminder that AEI’s new confidential occurrence reporting system is up and running. The system is not meant to replace any existing internal system or program, but to supplement existing systems, or provide a means of reporting to those who don’t have a reporting system. Refer to the AEI website if you’d like to utilize this new resource.

I attended an emergency meeting on the Trade in Services Agreement (TiSA) after the release of confidential documents by WikiLeaks. The meeting was held at the Swedish Trades Union Office in Brussels, Be. on July 3rd. 16 Representatives from 11 Counties and 13 Organizations were in attendance. This emergency meeting was called after learning that content within this agreement would dramatically change our industry by eliminating our licences and regulatory oversight. Please see my report on the Trade in Services Agreement (TiSA) for more details.

Fraternally,

Timothy Cullen

AEI, Secretary Americas
